Planning Your Visit

School visits to Scolton Manor are free.

1. All visits must be pre-booked, including any guided sessions required, and we aim to tailor each visit to meet the needs and ages of the children if informed in advance.

2. Self-led visits are unlimited in number, but only 25 children will be allowed in the museum buildings at any one time. Children must be accompanied by adults in the museum buildings at all times.

3. Guided sessions are limited to a maximum of 25 children per group.

4. Due to its small size, only 15 children will be allowed into Penrhos Cottage at any one time. It is also important to mention that the narrow roads around Penrhos Cottage limit the size of transport that can be used to reach the cottage.

5. Schools should ensure that all groups have adequate adult supervision, in line with their school policy, whilst at Scolton Manor or Penrhos Cottage.

6. Photographs can be taken by teachers or children and provided the photographs are for personal, or educational use, there are no copyright restrictions.

7. Sensible clothing and footwear is required if the outside activity trails are to be completed.

8. There are qualified first aiders on site, although schools are advised to bring their own first aider as well.

9. Facilities:-

  • There is a shop that stocks low-cost items for children to purchase.
  • Country park – including children's play equipment.
  • Toilets – including disabled facilities, at both the bottom and top of the site.

10. Packed lunches:- children are welcome to picnic on the site, but there are no dedicated indoor facilities for them to eat lunch. However, depending on the size of the group, and if enough prior warning is given, we may be able to accommodate them inside.

11. Disabled toilets are available at both the bottom and top of the site. The site pathways are graveled and fairly level, making them wheelchair accessible. The shop, café, visitor centre, toilets and ground floors of the Manor House and Exhibition Hall are wheelchair accessible. However, due to the nature of the Manor House and Exhibition Hall the cellar and first floors are only accessible via stairs.

12. A generic risk assessment can be seen below.

We recommend that you read the risk assessment before your visit.

Teachers are also welcome to visit and carry out their own pre-visit risk assessment providing we are informed of any such visit.
